The Brittany is a the smallest pointing bird dog. It is from France.
But it is now very popular in many other country. In proportion to
forexampel English setter it is a small breed, but it is expanding
fast. The race is a very easy traind dog, nice with children and love to hunt.
It is very good in any form of uplands bird hunting and can also be used
on water birds, since it usually is good on retrive. The body shall be
short and compact, as a cob type. That is also what who gives the dog
it`s fast and speedy action.
Now the breed has taken two different ways, the European breed and the American breed. The European breed is of course the right type
Since the dog is originally are from France. It is pitty that people breed
from the originall breed. That is what happend with the Cocker spaniell, Who is now two types of breed, American spaniell and Cocker spaniell. It has al ready been up in the American asscoiation if they now should splitt the breed. But it was in this round turned down.But if they
later disayed to splitt them it will be difficult for those who have the mix og european and american. Because then on shows they will
jugde after european standard and american standard. This breed started
just beacuse the american hunters wanted to have the brittany to go larger. And why it is imported to other countreys is on the same reason,
Hunters who want the dog to og larger and that is often a pluss in uplands hunting competions, specially in Norway where
the continental dogs have to compet with the English pointing dogs.
And unfortunately they jugde after the english standard where the dog shall go very large and fast. If people want dogs like that it is better
they buy english pointer`s, english setter, irish setter. And let the Brittany be like it shall be.A dog who hold good contact with leader, can be
used succesfully in every sorts of terrain. It most not be like that
we people change breeds just after the wind, let us keep what we al ready have. One day it is to late.
